Sahoo emerges champion; Jena finishes runner-up

Orissa players asserted their supremacy by securing the top 12 positions in the finals standings of the Kalinga-Seashore All-India Fide Rating (Below 2,000) Chess Tournament, which concluded here at the OASA Bhawan, Kharvel Nagar today.

Dasharathi Sahoo beat Kesha Ranjan Pradhan in the ninth and last round to emerge champion with eight points. Rakesh Kumar Jena (7.5 points) finished runner-up after getting the better of Sradhanjali Jena. The third position was claimed by Goura Hari Mohapatra (7.5), who defeated Sankalp Baliarsingh.

Altogether 131 players from six states joined the nine-round tournament, which is being organised by Kalinga Chess Academy. The four-day tournament offered a total prize fund of Rs 75,000, including Rs 10,000 for the champion.
